In Spite of Ourselves
We might just get to know and love each other across whatever divides us. If we can do it in unlikely romantic relationships why not across nations, political divides, and cultural boundaries?
I’ve always liked John Prine, a salty, seasoned, funny American musical institution all to himself. Here he links up with the lovely-voiced Iris Dement, another of my favorites, to give an ode to people who know their own faults and that of another, but still “never let (the other) go.” From Americana to Global-ana, there is some goodness to be taken from these simple sentiments and words. We ain’t all that. We’ve each got our own quirks, and we can drive each other crazy, BUT we can still appreciate each other and see our own humanness in one another. LET’S CELEBRATE THAT AND NEVER LET THAT GO! Have a listen and see if it doesn’t warm your heart a bit.
